Biography

Dr. David Messenger is an Associate Professor and Department Head at the Department of Emergency Medicine at Queen's University. He completed his undergraduate studies in Life Sciences at Queen's University, graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in 1998, followed by earning his MD from Queen's in 2002. Dr. Messenger subsequently completed a residency in Emergency Medicine as well as a Critical Care subspecialty residency. In 2017, he obtained a Masters in Management from the International Masters Health Leadership Program at McGill University. He joined the Department of Emergency Medicine in 2008 and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2015, later being appointed as Head of the Department in 2016. His clinical practice focuses on emergency medicine and critical care, and he has served as a Trauma Team Leader at Kingston General Hospital. Furthermore, he has actively contributed to academic training as the Residency Program Director for the Critical Care Medicine subspecialty training program from 2011 to 2016, and is involved in scholarly work that focuses on emergency department procedural sedation, resuscitation, and simulation-based medical education. He has participated in multiple funded research initiatives and has numerous scholarly publications to his credit. Dr. Messenger is past-president of the Clinical Teachers' Association at Queen's University and has been involved in multiple committees within hospitals, Faculty of Health Sciences, and the Southeastern Ontario Academic Medical Organization.
