Biography

David W. Miller is the Director of the Space Systems Laboratory and a Professor in the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He has played a significant engineering role in the development of space-based apertures and has built and operated a dozen space flight experiments spanning from the Space Shuttle program to the International Space Station, as well as free-flying missions. Miller was a member of the James Webb Space Telescope Product Integrity Team and served as Vice Chair of the Science and Technology Chair for the Air Force Scientific Advisory Board. He has had a notable career at NASA, serving as the Chief Technologist at NASA Headquarters in Washington, D.C. from 2014 to 2017. Currently, he is the Chief Technologist for the Astronomy Fundamental Physics Directorate at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory. He is also a Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics and is a member of the National Academy of Engineering.
