Biography

David Mohrig is a Professor in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences at the University of Texas at Austin's Jackson School of Geosciences. His research focuses on sedimentary processes and the evolution of terrestrial and submarine landscapes. He investigates the transport of sedimentary deposits using both laboratory and natural experiments, as well as theoretical modeling. His work emphasizes the processes controlling channel formation and land in deep ocean environments. Mohrig uses a combination of field studies of sediment-dispersal systems and remote sensing to understand subsurface sedimentary deposits. He teaches courses related to sediment geology including GEO371C and GEO380G, and he has contributed significantly to the understanding of sediment transport and geohazards. Over his career, he has been recognized with several awards for his teaching and research contributions.
