David Molyneux is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science at Memorial University of Newfoundland. He specializes in marine engineering with a focus on Arctic ship structures and marine hydrodynamics. Molyneux holds a B.Sc. from Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, an M.Sc. from the University of British Columbia, and a Ph.D. from Memorial University. He has extensive experience in both public and private sectors, and from 1985 to 2008, he worked at the National Research Council (NRC) in St. John's, where he conducted research on marine safety and hydrodynamic performance. In 2008, he joined Oceanic to manage the development and acquisition of computer codes for predicting the performance of ships and offshore structures in harsh environments. Molyneux joined the faculty at Memorial in 2015 and has contributed to significant research, including the numerical and experimental predictions of ice loads on offshore structures and the safety of RO-RO ferries. He has received the Bronze Medal from the Royal Institution of Naval Architects for his paper on flooding protection for RO-RO ferries, co-authored a paper on predicting ice loads for offshore structures, and served as Chair of the SNAME Organizing Committee for the Arctic Technology Conference. Molyneux also delivered an invited lecture on technology requirements for hydrocarbon exploration and production in the Arctic at an international conference in Busan, Korea in 2014.
