Biography

Professor David Moxey is a prominent figure in the field of Computational Engineering at King’s College London. He holds the prestigious UKAEA/RAEng Research Chair, focusing on the development of next-generation numerical methods for high-fidelity fusion modeling. Prior to this role, he served as a Senior Lecturer in Engineering at the University of Exeter from 2017 to 2021 and as a research teaching fellow in the Department of Aeronautics at Imperial College London from 2011 to 2017. Moxey's research is dedicated to advancing novel numerical methodologies and their application to complex industrial challenges, particularly in fluid dynamics and fusion energy. His work aims to leverage the computational capabilities of current and future supercomputers to create digital twins of engineering problems, which are otherwise difficult to address experimentally. Moxey is recognized for his contributions to the open-source spectral/hp element framework, Nektar++, which has been adopted by over sixty research groups worldwide. His group has successfully secured a variety of funding sources, including a Royal Academy of Engineering Research Chair in collaboration with the UK Atomic Energy Authority, and has been involved in several pioneering projects that explore the development of software for numerical methods tailored for exascale computing. Moxey's diverse research interests also encompass high-order finite element methods and modern scientific high-performance computing. He continues to work closely with industrial partners in innovative projects that bridge academic research with practical engineering applications.
