Biography

David W. Nauen, M.D., Ph.D. specializes in the molecular functional analyses of hippocampal tissue response to injury. After completing his M.D./Ph.D. program at the University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon, he trained in residency and fellowship at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, focusing on Pathology. His research interests include understanding the mechanisms of medial temporal lobe epilepsy (MTLE) as impacted by head injury and febrile seizures. He investigates the contribution of developmental processes to the pathogenesis of epilepsy, aiming to understand how neurogenesis and brain circuitry can be altered in patients post-injury. Dr. Nauen has built a robust research program incorporating electrophysiology and molecular biology, collaborating with experts across multiple disciplines. Through his work, he hopes to identify treatment targets that can prevent the pathological remodeling of neural circuits associated with epilepsy. He is also actively involved in educating the next generation of pathologists in his role as an associate professor at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.
