Dr. David Nicol

Biography

David Nicol is an Associate Professor and Associate Director at the Fountain School of Performing Arts at Dalhousie University. He received his BA from Aberystwyth University, his MA in Shakespeare Studies from the Shakespeare Institute, and his PhD from the University of Central England. David has taught numerous courses on theatre, film, and literature, with teaching and research interests in English Renaissance drama, theatre history, and film studies. His primary research area focuses on English Renaissance drama, particularly works by playwrights Thomas Middleton and William Rowley. He is the author of 'Middleton and Rowley: Forms of Collaboration in the Jacobean Playhouse' published by University of Toronto Press in 2012. His published articles appear in journals such as Cahiers Elisabethains, Comparative Drama, Early Theatre, and Studies in English Literature. David currently serves as the theatre reviews editor for the online journal Early Modern Literary Studies and is working on a study of theatre in 1620s England, including a forthcoming stage history section in the New Variorum edition of 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' for the Modern Language Association.
