Biography

David D. Nolte is the Edward M. Purcell Distinguished Professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Purdue University. He earned his B.A. in Physics from Cornell University in 1981 and his Ph.D. in Physics from the University of California, Berkeley in 1988. His research focuses on holography, interferometry, and biophotonics, specifically using laser interferometry to study intracellular dynamics in living systems. He has authored over 200 journal papers and has written 14 book chapters and encyclopedia articles. Nolte has secured 24 patents in interferometric optics and biophotonics and has been involved in the founding of start-up companies based on these applications. He is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Physical Society, and the Optical Society of America, and has received various honors including the Herbert Newby McCoy Award from Purdue University in 2005.
