Biography

David Osleger is a Professor in the Earth and Planetary Sciences Department at the University of California, Davis. He received his Ph.D. from Virginia Polytechnic Institute in 1990. His research primarily focuses on geology, specifically as a sedimentologist and stratigrapher. He is particularly interested in paleoenvironmental reconstruction, carbonate platforms, ancient sea level change, and the paleoclimate record preserved in lake cores. Over the years, he has worked on various projects involving the strontium and carbon isotopic signatures of Cambrian oceans, as well as the architecture of Cretaceous carbonates in northeastern Mexico. His research also includes investigating the paleo-precipitation history of the northern Sierra Nevada, as deduced from Lake Tahoe sediment cores. Apart from his research, David is dedicated to geoscience education and outreach, emphasizing undergraduate teaching, particularly for geology majors at UC Davis.
