Biography

David Z. Pan is a Professor at the University of Texas at Austin in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. An ACM Fellow, IEEE Fellow, and SPIE Fellow, he received his B.S. degree in Physics from Peking University and both M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). His academic career includes serving as Research Staff Member at IBM T. J. Watson Research Center from 2000 to 2003, followed by roles as Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and now Professor at UT Austin. His research interests encompass electronic design automation, efficient machine learning, hardware acceleration, and AI chip designs, including digital, analog, mixed-signal, and RF technologies. He has published over 500 refereed journal and conference papers and holds 10 U.S. patents. He has supervised 55 PhDs and postdocs who have gone on to significant academic and industry positions. His work spans areas including architecture, computer systems, embedded systems, and integrated circuits and systems, with current research focusing on design automation for circuits and systems, hardware-software co-design for machine learning, and FPGA prototyping among others.
