Biography

David Park is an internationally recognized expert in molecular biology and currently serves as the Director of the Hotchkiss Brain Institute at the University of Calgary. He leads the Brain Mental Health Research Strategy and is dedicated to understanding the cellular mechanisms involved in Parkinson's disease and stroke-related neurodegeneration. Dr. Park completed his Ph.D. in Biochemistry at Rutgers University, followed by postdoctoral training in neurobiology at Columbia University. His research focuses on the genetic causes of Parkinson's disease, specifically the genes linked to familial forms of the disease, and he aims to understand target cellular mechanisms that may improve recovery and survival after a stroke. Dr. Park has published extensively in high-impact journals such as Nature and Science and has received numerous prestigious awards, including being named a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada in 2012 and a Career Scientist from the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
