Biography

Professor David Parker focuses on fundamental research in molecular laser physics, particularly in the areas of molecular photodissociation and collision dynamics. He is known for leading the development of the velocity map imaging technique, which has been widely adopted in molecular dynamics research. His main research interests include inelastic scattering and VUV photoionization processes relevant to astrochemistry. Recently, he has initiated a new line of research on ice-surface interactions utilizing velocity map imaging for detection purposes. Professor Parker also engages in applied research concerning trace gas detection, in collaboration with Frans Harren, and is involved in the development of ultra-sensitive detectors for various applications. His work encompasses imaging mass spectrometry, electronic state spectroscopy, laser ionization, photodissociation, and molecular beam technology.
