Biography

Dave Patterson earned Bachelor of Nursing and Master of Nursing degrees from the University of Calgary. His graduate work focused on nursing education and interprofessional education simulations, culminating in certification as a Canadian Certified Simulation Nurse Educator. Since 2011, Dave has been a dedicated faculty member at the University of Calgary’s Faculty of Nursing. He currently holds the position of Assistant Professor (Teaching), with a distinguished clinical career that includes roles as a Community Health Educator in the Calgary Zone and as a Perinatal Education Program Level II NICU Nurse with Alberta Health Services. Dave is committed to advancing compassionate, family-centered care and has deepened his work with students in congregate living environments, developing a strong interest in supporting individuals living with dementia and their families. His collaborative approach emphasizes respectful engagement with students, staff, and care partners. Throughout his tenure, Dave has taught various levels of the undergraduate nursing curriculum, focusing on supporting students' transition to professional nursing practice. In addition to his academic leadership role as Associate Dean of Undergraduate Practice Education, Dave serves as President of the Alberta Gerontological Nurses Association, advocating for excellence in gerontological nursing across the province.
