Biography

David Piché has been a professor in the Department of Philosophy at the Université de Montréal since 2006. His research primarily focuses on the nature and scope of intellectual cognition, addressing questions raised during the medieval university debates of the 13th and 14th centuries. His work examines various ontological and metaphysical issues, particularly concerning universals, and the epistemological challenges related to the interplay between philosophical and religious discourses. Piché’s publications explore critical editions of Latin texts from the High Late Middle Ages, alongside translations and interpretations from a critical historical perspective of medieval thought. He completed a doctorate in the history of thought systems at the École pratique des hautes études in Paris, alongside a PhD in philosophy at Laval University in Quebec, where his research was guided by notable scholars Alain de Libera and Claude Lafleur. He has also held postdoctoral fellowships at the Canada Research Chair in Knowledge Theory and the Institute of Medieval Philosophy and Theology at Boston College, underscoring his expertise in the intersections of philosophy, history, and epistemology.
