Dr. David Pinato

Biography

David J. Pinato is a Clinician Scientist and Consultant Medical Oncologist at Imperial College London, specializing in Experimental Cancer Therapeutics. He leads a translational research program focused on the early clinical implementation of novel experimental anticancer therapies, with a particular emphasis on anti-cancer immunotherapy. His work includes the inception of first-in-class studies of immune checkpoint inhibitors in liver cancer, significantly contributing to the understanding of host mechanisms that underpin responses to these therapies. Pinato completed his research training with a Master's in Translational Medicine and a Ph.D. in Clinical Experimental Medicine, focusing on the inflammation and prognostic mechanisms in liver cancer. His clinical experience includes training at several renowned academic institutions across Europe and a Clinical Lectureship funded by the National Institute of Health Research. His research has led to the qualification of novel prognostic biomarkers for Hepatocellular Carcinoma (HCC) and has been recognized with several prestigious awards, including the EASL Emerging Leader Award in 2023. Pinato is also an active lecturer and peer reviewer, contributing to numerous leading journals in his field.
