Dr. David Price

Biography

David E. Price is a Professor Emeritus at the Sanford School of Public Policy at Duke University, specializing in Political Science. He earned his Ph.D. from Yale University in 1969. Price represented North Carolina’s Fourth District in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1987 to 2022, focusing on issues like mass transit, urban development, and support for affordable housing. He also served on the House Appropriations Committee and was the chairman of several subcommittees during his tenure. In addition to his political career, Price has published four books and numerous articles on American politics, political institutions, ethics, and foreign affairs. He has had a significant impact on strengthening representative institutions in emerging democracies through his work with the House Democracy Partnership. Price holds a Bachelor of Divinity from Mars Hill College and a Ph.D. in Political Science from Yale, where he taught for four years before joining Duke in 1973. He has received accolades such as the Hubert H. Humphrey Award from the American Political Science Association in 1990. David resides in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, with his family, including children Karen and Michael, and grandchildren.
