David Pye obtained Bachelor and Master of Optometry degrees from the University of New South Wales (UNSW) and is a Fellow of the Contact Lens Society of Australia. After graduation, he worked in clinical practice and served as a Tutor in the Department of Optometry at UNSW, focusing on research and contact lens manufacturing. He became Clinic Director at the Contact Lens Clinic in 1983 and has held the position for over 25 years. He was also part of the Eye Team at the Sydney Olympics, providing eye care to diabetes patients.
