Dr. David Pye

Biography

David Pye obtained Bachelor and Master of Optometry degrees from the University of New South Wales (UNSW) and is a Fellow of the Contact Lens Society of Australia. After graduation, he worked in clinical practice and served as a Tutor in the Department of Optometry at UNSW, focusing on research and contact lens manufacturing. He became Clinic Director at the Contact Lens Clinic in 1983 and has held the position for over 25 years. He was also part of the Eye Team at the Sydney Olympics, providing eye care to diabetes patients. He was involved in the establishment of the Centre for Eye Health (CFEH) at UNSW, serving as Deputy Director from 2009 to 2012. Pye has published 50 papers, articles, and book chapters, supervised 80 final year research projects, co-supervised six PhD students, and presented at international and national conferences as a reviewer for 32 journals. He currently lectures on contact lens courses and coordinates the Advanced Contact Lens Clinic, as well as the clinic preceptorship for years 4 and 5. His current research focuses on intraocular pressure measurement, corneal biomechanics, keratoconus, corneal topography, contact lenses, and ocular imaging.
