Biography

David Rand is a professor of marketing management and communication at the Samuel Curtis Johnson Graduate School of Management and a professor of information science at the Ann S. Bowers College of Computing and Information Science at Cornell University. He employs computational social science to investigate the dialogues between humans and generative AI models to correct inaccurate beliefs, illuminate how individuals share false information online, and understand political polarization while promoting human cooperation. He has published over 200 articles in peer-reviewed journals, including Nature, Science, PNAS, Psychological Science, CHI, and Management Science, and his work has received widespread media attention. Rand also advises technology companies such as Google, Meta, and TikTok in their efforts to inform users about accurate information. He has written for popular press outlets including New York, Wired, and New Scientist. He earned his BA in computational biology from Cornell University in 2004 and his PhD in systems biology from Harvard University in 2009.
