David Rangel is an Assistant Professor whose research explores how schools serve as social institutions that reflect and perpetuate broader systems of inequality. His work sits at the intersection of sociology and education, aiming to develop new theoretical and empirical understandings of how race, immigration status, social class, and gender intersect to shape the everyday experiences of families and schools. He investigates the inequalities produced by family socialization processes, parent–school interaction, and daily practices that uphold existing systems of privilege and disadvantage. Using both qualitative and quantitative methods, Rangel studies questions concerning low-income Latino parents' construction of support networks, the role of racism as a fundamental cause of racialized educational disparities, and the influence of parental education on infant health. His recent publications include works in prestigious journals such as the American Educational Research Journal and Sociological Perspectives, among others.
