Professor Dr. David Roberts

Biography

David B. Roberts is a Reader at King's College London, leading the twin-track Arabic English Master of Research (MRes) programme at the School of Security Studies. He also serves as Adjunct Faculty at Sciences Po's Paris School of International Affairs, and as a Non-Resident Fellow at the Arab Gulf States Institute in Washington. Roberts has a rich background in Middle East security studies, holding a Ph.D. from Durham University. He previously held the position of Director of the Gulf office at the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) Qatar. His primary research interests focus on international relations, conflict, security, and policy within the context of Middle Powers, particularly in the Gulf region and the wider Middle East. He authored 'Security Politics in the Gulf Monarchies,' published by Columbia University Press in 2023, and explores the concepts of overt and covert factors affecting military capability development. Additionally, he supervises PhD candidates specializing in Middle Eastern studies.
