Biography

Professor David Román publishes extensively on American theater performance and regularly writes about literary, visual, and performing arts. His published works include the award-winning books 'Acts of Intervention: AIDS, Performance, Gay Culture, & AIDS', 'O Solo Homo: New Queer Performance', and 'Performance America: Contemporary Culture Performing Arts', along with edited anthologies and exhibition catalogues. Currently, he is completing 'The (Taylor) Mac Book' for the University of Michigan Press. His research interests focus on the role of the arts during the early years of AIDS, the history of tragedy, and the relationship with contemporary arts, literature, and culture. He specializes in theater performance studies, queer HIV/AIDS histories and cultures, and broadly conceived American studies and cultural politics in the arts. He is also affiliated with the University of London’s Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, where he is developing expertise in contemporary theater in London.
