Biography

David Rounce is an Assistant Professor in the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at Carnegie Mellon University, where he has been a faculty member since Fall 2020. He holds a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin, as well as an M.S. in Environmental Water Resources Engineering and a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Villanova University. His research focuses on the quantification of glacier response, water resources, and hazards associated with climate change. Rounce utilizes computational models that are informed by remote sensing and grounded in fieldwork to produce actionable information for adaptation and mitigation strategies across local, regional, and global scales. He has conducted postdoctoral research with the Glaciers Group at the University of Alaska Fairbanks and has received multiple awards, including the American Geophysical Union's 2025 Cryosphere Early Career Award and the International Glaciology Society’s inaugural Firn Award for his pioneering research in glacier evolution modeling.
