David T. Rubin is the Joseph B. Kirsner Professor of Medicine at the University of Chicago and the Chief of the Section of Gastroenterology, Hepatology & Nutrition. He is also the Director of the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center. Dr. Rubin earned his medical degree with honors from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine, where he completed his residency in internal medicine alongside fellowships in gastroenterology and clinical medical ethics. He is an associate faculty member of the MacLean Center for Clinical Medical Ethics and serves as an associate investigator at the University of Chicago Comprehensive Cancer Center. He has held leadership roles, including chairing the National Scientific Advisory Committee for the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation and currently chairs the International Organization for the Study of Inflammatory Bowel Disease. Dr. Rubin’s research revolves around disease modification in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), including clinical trial designs and novel measures of inflammation and quality of life. He has received numerous accolades for his contributions, including twice receiving the ACG Governor's Award for Excellence in Clinical Research and the Sherman Prize for Excellence in Crohn's and Colitis. He also received the UChicago Michael Reese Lectureship Award and the Arthur H. Rubenstein Mentorship Award in Academic Medicine.
