Dr. David Ryfe

Biography

David Ryfe is a Professor and Director at the School of Journalism and Media, Moody College of Communication, at The University of Texas at Austin. He has published widely in areas of presidential communication, political communication, public deliberation, and the history and sociology of news. His recent works include the books 'Journalism Survive?' (Polity, 2012), which is an ethnographic study of American newsrooms, and 'Journalism Public' (Polity, 2017), which examines how journalism shapes public life. He is also involved in a forthcoming study titled 'Local News in the Digital Age', focusing on the current state and near-future of local journalism in a large Midwestern city. Ryfe has over a decade of experience as an academic administrator and has previously served as the director at the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Iowa, working to prepare a new generation of journalists for a rapidly changing industry.
