Biography

David Santacroce is a clinical professor of law and director of the Civil-Criminal Litigation Clinic at the University of Michigan Law School. He previously served as the associate dean for experiential education from 2013 to 2019. His primary research interests include housing, consumer credit, and health care-related civil rights. Santacroce is the founder and president of the Center for the Study of Applied Legal Education (CSALE), a nonprofit corporation housed in the Law School that focuses on the empirical study of law school clinics and externship programs. He has provided advice and assistance to deans and faculty members from more than 75 percent of law schools in areas related to clinic and externship design, pedagogy, and staffing. Additionally, he served as the president and founding member of Equal Justice America, which provides grants to law students for volunteer work with organizations offering civil legal services to the indigent. His previous experience includes being a senior staff attorney at the Sugar Law Center for Economic and Social Justice in Detroit, where he managed worker's rights campaigns. Santacroce has presented at various conferences and seminars, discussing topics related to legal education and the role of technology in access to justice.
