Biography

David R. Selviah studied at Trinity College, Cambridge University, where he was awarded B.A. and M.A. degrees in Physics and Theoretical Physics, specializing in Mathematical Modelling, in 1980 and 1984 respectively. He then received his Ph.D. degree in Engineering, specializing in Optical Devices, Interconnects, and Algorithms, in 2009. He has held various research and engineering positions, including internships at the Royal Aircraft Establishment, Texas Instruments, and CERN. For three years, he worked at Plessey Industrial Telecommunications, where he researched RF Surface Acoustic Wave correlators and frequency filters for signal processing and secure communication systems. Dr. Selviah joined University College London (UCL) in 1987 and currently holds the position of Reader in Optical Devices, Interconnects, and Algorithms Systems. He leads the Optical Devices Systems Research Laboratory and has been involved in delivering outstanding research recognized by the UK Technology Centre of Excellence. Over the past 25 years, he has published extensively in fields such as optics, pattern recognition, and image processing, delivering over 200 publications and patents. He is a member of IEEE, the Institute of Physics, and the Optical Society of America, and he serves as a technical expert for standards in optical technologies.
