Dr. David Sherr

Biography

David Sherr is an Emeritus Professor at Boston University School of Public Health, specializing in Environmental Health. His research investigates the impact of common environmental pollutants such as dioxins, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), and PCBs on the immune system and the induction of cancer. Sherr's laboratory has notably demonstrated high levels of aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR) in breast cancer, with findings extending to various cancers, including those of the oral cavity, brain, and lung. He has developed state-of-the-art molecular technologies, including CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing, to explore how environmental chemicals can activate cellular signaling pathways that lead to cancer progression. His work is supported by several grants from the NIH and other foundations, emphasizing the health effects of environmental toxins. Dr. Sherr has a distinguished academic lineage, having joined the Boston University faculty after completing a postdoctoral fellowship at Harvard Medical School. He has directed multiple NIH-funded training and research programs and has continuously contributed to the academic community, training numerous students at various educational levels.
