Biography

David Shoultz is the inaugural Chief Scientific Officer (CSO) of the Myeloproliferative Neoplasm (MPN) Research Foundation, appointed in January 2025. His mission at the foundation is to stimulate original research in pursuit of new treatments and a cure for blood cancers such as essential thrombocythemia, polycythemia vera, and myelofibrosis. The foundation combines innovative research investment with patient advocacy to convene the global MPN community for the common goal of realizing new treatment options and cures. Prior to his role at the MPN Research Foundation, David founded Monod Bio with Drs. Daniel Silva Manzano and Alfredo Quijano Rubio, which spun out of the University of Washington’s Institute for Protein Design founded by Nobel laureate Dr. David Baker. Throughout his career, David has held multiple positions of increasing responsibility in biotech and pharmaceutical companies, and significant leadership roles at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and PATH, where he served as Global Program Leader of the Drug Development Program. He has been an affiliate faculty member at the University of Washington for over twenty years, teaching courses on global health epidemiology and advising students in the departments of Epidemiology and Global Health. David also teaches courses on strategy and operations at Seattle University and has a strong interest in the development of drugs, diagnostics, and vaccines, particularly in low and middle-income countries.
