Dr. David Silverman

Biography

David Silverman will be joining the Department of Psychology at Yale University as an Assistant Professor in July 2026. He holds a Ph.D. from Northwestern University, which he is expected to complete in 2025. His research focuses on how marginalized identities, particularly those related to race and economic background, impact access to opportunities in schools and workplaces. His lab investigates the constrained perspectives that hinder marginalized communities from accessing opportunities and aims to shift these narratives towards strength-based approaches. Utilizing a variety of methodologies, including laboratory experiments and longitudinal studies in partnership with schools across the United States, Silverman's work is intentionally designed to identify practical pathways for social change. He seeks to pinpoint the psychological, behavioral, and material processes that contribute to inequity, aiming to contribute to a deeper understanding of these complex issues.
