Dr. David Simpson

Biography

David Simpson is a professor specializing in Biomedical Signal Processing at the University of Southampton. He graduated in Biomedical Electronics from the University of Salford in 1981 and began his career as a mathematics and physics teacher in Nigeria. Simpson later obtained his PhD in Electrical Engineering from Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine, University of London, in 1988, where he initiated his research interests in signal and image processing in medical and biological contexts. Between 1989 and 1998, he lectured in Biomedical Engineering at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. After serving as a research fellow in the Medical Physics Department of Leicester Royal Infirmary, he joined the University of Southampton in 2001. His work primarily focuses on developing diagnostic and patient monitoring methods using computational data analysis techniques. His research interests include the analysis of blood flow control in the brain, auditory evoked potentials, and their applications in improving hearing and brain responses. He is actively involved in teaching various engineering modules and aims to enable future engineers to tackle real-world challenges in medical applications.
