Biography

David Stewart Sinclair is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery at McGill University. His clinical interests are focused on cerebrovascular and skull base neurosurgery, particularly in areas concerned with carotid artery disease, stroke management, and treatment strategies for cerebral aneurysms and subarachnoid hemorrhage. He is also involved in research that explores advanced therapies for stroke and understanding evolutionary aspects of cerebral development. Dr. Sinclair plays a significant role in medical education, serving as the Director of the Cerebrovascular Skull Base Fellowship at McGill’s Faculty of Medicine. He completed his postgraduate training in diverse fields, including marine biology, medical epidemiology, and flight medicine, and has experience serving as a medical officer in the Canadian Navy during UN peacekeeping missions in the Middle East. He practiced family medicine in a small community in Nova Scotia before pursuing neurosurgical training at the University of Alberta, where he obtained his Royal College Specialist Certificate in Neurosurgery in 1995. Dr. Sinclair joined a neurosurgical group at Dalhousie University, focusing on pediatric trauma neurosurgery. He completed a fellowship in cerebrovascular surgery in 2000 and has been a member of McGill’s Faculty of Medicine since 1999.
