Dr. David Sly

Biography

David Sly is an Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of Western Australia and the Chief Operating Officer of Research at the Ear Science Institute Australia. With over 25 years of experience in biomedical research and higher education across Australian universities and medical research institutes, Dr. Sly specializes in auditory neuroscience, cochlear implants, hearing therapeutics, and the development of diagnostic hearing device technologies. He has co-investigated numerous research projects linking academia with industry, particularly in translating research into clinical applications and commercial products for hearing health. Dr. Sly has been pivotal in forming industry partnerships and has overseen research teams while developing collaborative agreements across various sectors. He has successfully secured significant research funding from the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) and other foundations, facilitating advancements in cochlear implant technology and hearing diagnostics. As an educator, he has developed curricula for both undergraduate and postgraduate programs in neuroscience and medical technology, earning recognition for his contributions to teaching and mentoring the next generation of scientists and clinicians.
