Dr. David Smith

Biography

David R. Smith is the James B. Duke Distinguished Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Duke University, where he also holds a position as a Professor in the Department of Physics. His research focuses on metamaterials and integrated plasmonics, with applications in imaging and health care. Smith is also an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Physics at the University of California, San Diego, and has been a Visiting Professor at Imperial College in London. He received his Ph.D. in Physics from the University of California, San Diego, in 1994. Throughout his career, he has led numerous projects related to the development and application of metamaterials, with attention to their implications in various fields including public safety and telecommunications.
