Biography

Michigan native David Somand moved to Ann Arbor to complete his undergraduate degree, medical school, and residency at the University of Michigan. He has been a faculty member in the Department of Emergency Medicine since 2009, where he took on the role of faculty lead in Quality in 2011 and became Medical Director of Adult Emergency Services (AES) in 2014. He has served as Service Chief for AES since 2024. Dr. Somand has research interests in patient safety, quality improvement, emergency department operations, and clinical care pathway development. He holds multiple institutional roles, including leadership of the S-AOD/transfer program, focusing on streamlining processes to enhance patient care and outcomes.
