Biography

David F. Stern is a Professor in the Department of Pathology at Yale School of Medicine. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1976 and a PhD in Biology from the University of California, San Diego in 1983. His dissertation research at the Salk Institute related to the coronavirus lytic cycle. He returned to MIT's Cancer Center for postdoctoral work, where he made pioneering contributions to the analysis of the neu/ErbB2/HER2 oncogene. Since joining Yale in 1988, Dr. Stern has focused his research on growth factors, particularly the roles of the EGF family and their receptors in malignant transformation, with special emphasis on breast cancer. His current research includes developing methods to counter rapid resistance to anti-cancer agents in breast cancer and melanoma. Along with his primary research, he also contributes to training future oncologists at the Yale Cancer Center and serves as the Associate Director for Shared Resources at the center.
