Biography

Dr. Steven is currently the Professor Richard Beryl Ivey Chair in the Department of Clinical Neurological Sciences. He joined the department in 2003 and has devoted his career to the surgical treatment of epilepsy. He serves as the surgical co-director of the epilepsy program at LHSC and has helped build it into the largest program in Canada. He is dedicated to residency and fellowship education, having served as the residency program director, and continues to direct the epilepsy surgery fellowship at Western. This fellowship has become a premiere program of its kind in Canada, training fellows from around the world in London. Nationally, Dr. Steven is heavily involved with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, serving as a member of the Specialty Committee in Neurosurgery and as an examiner since 2008, currently holding the position of Chair of the Royal College Examination Board for Neurosurgery. Internationally, he represents the Canadian Neurosurgical Society on the Neurosurgery Advisory Board of the American College of Surgeons and has spent considerable time developing epilepsy surgery programs in Peru, as well as postgraduate medical training in neurosurgery and neurology in the Middle East. His research focuses on clinical outcomes in epilepsy surgery.
