Dr. David Stewart

Biography

David Stewart is a Professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of Calgary, specializing in Canadian politics. He completed his BA and MA at Acadia University and earned his PhD from the University of British Columbia in 1990. Over the years, he has taught at seven universities across four western Canadian provinces. Stewart was a member of the Department of Political Science at the University of Alberta from 1992 to 2000, after which he moved to the University of Manitoba, where he held various leadership positions including Dean of Studies at St. John's College and Associate Dean of the Faculty of Arts. Since joining the University of Calgary in 2005, he has served as the Head of the Political Science Department and is currently the President of the University of Calgary Faculty Association. His research interests include political parties, leadership selection processes, provincial party systems, parliamentary government, and political realignment, with his work appearing in journals such as the Canadian Journal of Political Science and the Canadian Political Science Review.
