Biography

David Taubman is a Professor at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) in the School of Electrical Engineering and Telecommunications, where he has been a faculty member since 1998. He holds a Bachelor in Mathematics Computer Science and a Bachelor of Engineering with a medal from the University of Sydney. He earned his Master's and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley. His professional interests include image compression, particularly the JPEG2000 standard, where he was a key contributor to its development and is the author of the EBCOT coding algorithm. Taubman's research has resulted in numerous successful Australian Research Council discovery applications and numerous recognized plenary and keynote speeches at prestigious conferences. He has received numerous accolades, including the IEEE Signal Processing Society Paper Award in 2001 and the UNSW Vice Chancellor’s Teaching Award in 2014. As a leader in the field, he has served as an associate editor for IEEE Transactions on Image Processing and has been involved in several professional societies, including the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers as a Fellow.
