Biography

David Threadgill holds a joint appointment in the Department of Biochemistry & Biophysics and serves as the director of the Texas A&M Institute for Genome Sciences and Society at Texas A&M University. He received his Bachelor of Science in Zoology in 1983 and his Ph.D. in Genetics in 1989 from Texas A&M University, where he was mentored by Dr. James Womack. He completed a NIH-funded Postdoctoral Fellowship at Case Western Reserve University in Dr. Terry Magnuson's laboratory. In 1996, he became an assistant professor in the Department of Cell Biology at Vanderbilt University, and in 2000, he moved to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he was promoted to professor in the Department of Genetics. In 2008, he transitioned to North Carolina State University as a professor and head of the Department of Genetics. In July 2013, he joined the faculty at Texas A&M University. His research focuses on using mouse experimental genetic models to investigate inter-individual differences in health and disease, including cancer genetics, the biological role of the Erbb gene family, and genetic variation in response to environmental factors.
