Dr. David Thue

Biography

David Thue is an Associate Professor in the School of Information Technology at Carleton University, where he leads the RISE research group (Reasoning Interactive Systems Experiences). His research focuses on developing and applying Artificial Intelligence techniques to enhance user experiences across various domains, including health, gaming, creative writing, and citizen science. Thue has served on the board of directors for the Association for Research in Interactive Digital Narratives (ARDIN) and has been an integral part of the steering committee for the International Conference on Interactive Digital Storytelling (ICIDS). He has organized multiple events related to AI narrative technologies and has held significant roles in various committees within the field. Before his current position, Dr. Thue was an Assistant Professor and Industry Chair in Game Design at Reykjavik University in Iceland, where he advanced the curriculum on Computer Game Design and Development. He earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Alberta in 2015, focusing on AI systems that manage interactive experiences. His research areas include Design, Adaptation, and Reasoning in Interactive Systems, Human-Computer Interaction, Game Design, and Machine Learning.
