Professor Dr. David Townsend

Biography

David Townsend is a Professor of Medieval Studies and English at the University of Toronto, where he also serves as Professor Emeritus. His scholarly work encompasses the edition and translation of medieval texts and the study of medieval manuscripts, particularly their relevance to gender theory and queer theory within medieval literature. Townsend is the founding director of the Sexual Diversity Studies Program at University College and has been a member of the advisory committee for the Centre for Sexual Diversity Studies. He is involved with several editorial boards, including the Exemplaria Journal and the Dumbarton Oaks Medieval Library, and holds the position of general editor for Toronto Medieval Latin Texts. His extensive publication record features notable works such as the annotated edition of John Glastonbury's chronicle and various articles on medieval literature, emphasizing themes of gender and translation.
