Biography

David G. Victor is a Distinguished Professor at the School of Global Policy and Strategy at UC San Diego, where he holds the Peter Cowhey Chair in Innovation and Public Policy. He is also the Director of the Deep Decarbonization Initiative, which addresses the engineering, economic, and political challenges of achieving zero emissions of warming gases. His research explores the regulation of industries and the effects of regulation on the operation of major energy markets. He authored 'Global Warming Gridlock,' a critical analysis of the diplomatic hurdles in tackling climate change, and was a convening lead author for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, which received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007. Victor has served on the Community Engagement Panel for Southern California Edison and has been involved with various initiatives at the Brookings Institution. He also teaches at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography and was previously a professor at Stanford Law School. Victor was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2020.
