Dr. David Wallace

Biography

David Wallace is the Judith Rodin Professor of English at the University of Pennsylvania, where he has been since 1996. He has also held visiting positions at institutions including London, Melbourne, Princeton, and Jerusalem. His research focuses on European literatures, particularly the performance and enjoyment of poetry, with a keen emphasis on Geoffrey Chaucer and the afterlife of Dante. He is currently involved in a major research project titled "National Epics," which examines how national cultures and narratives operate within a global context. This project involves collaboration with over 100 scholars worldwide and challenges traditional notions of nationalism and state boundaries in literary history. Wallace is committed to supporting younger scholars and has contributed significantly to the fields of medieval studies, gender studies, and environmental humanities. He has published widely, including works that explore the lives and contributions of women writers in medieval literature. Additionally, he has conducted various public lectures and has held editorial positions on academic journals focusing on medieval literature.
