Biography

David Walsh has 30 years of experience in health and public health research. Prior to his current position at the University of Glasgow, which began in February 2024, he spent 17 years as the Public Health Programme Manager at Glasgow Centre for Population Health. His previous roles include significant positions at the Public Health Institute of Scotland and NHS Health Scotland, where he focused on various public health projects between 2001 and 2006. He also worked with ISD Scotland from 1994 to 2001, managing research projects related to the health services in Greater Glasgow and Argyll & Clyde. As an affiliated researcher at the University of Glasgow Centre for Public Policy, his research primarily focuses on health inequalities and their determinants, especially the impacts of government austerity policies on health, causes of excess mortality in Scotland and Glasgow, early years environments, and health inequalities related to ethnicity. His current and ongoing research endeavors seek to further understand these complex issues, particularly in post-industrial regions of Europe.
