Biography

David Wardle is a plant ecologist whose research focuses on the linkages between aboveground and belowground communities and their role in ecosystem functioning. He investigates how these interactions are influenced by global change drivers. His work largely emphasizes natural ecosystems, primarily in northern Sweden, but he has also conducted research in various regions across the globe, including Southeast Asia, Oceania, the Americas, and Europe. Current research projects address community ecosystem effects of invasive species, ecological consequences of wildfires in forests, and changes in ecosystems along natural gradients of elevation and temperature. Throughout his career, he has mentored over 60 postdoctoral researchers and PhD students, many of whom have achieved significant recognition in their scientific careers. His editorial contributions include serving as a Series Editor for Springer’s ‘Ecological Studies’ and as a member of the editorial boards for several prestigious ecological journals.
