Dr. David Welch

Biography

David Welch is an accomplished academic in the field of Political Science, currently serving as a Professor and University Research Chair at the University of Waterloo. He holds a Ph.D. from Harvard University, attained in 1990. Welch specializes in areas such as International Relations, International Security, International Theory, Global Governance, and foreign policy decision making. He has written extensively, with notable publications including 'Security: Philosophical Investigation' (Cambridge University Press, 2022) and the award-winning 'Painful Choices: Theory Foreign Policy Change' (Princeton University Press, 2005), which was recognized with the International Studies Association ISSS Book Award. His contributions to the field have also earned him the Edgar S. Furniss Award for outstanding contributions to National Security Studies. David Welch has also served as co-editor for the journal 'International Theory' published by Cambridge University Press and has collaborated on significant texts, such as 'Understanding Global Conflict Cooperation' with Joseph S. Nye, Jr. In teaching, he has received various awards for his excellence, including the Outstanding Teaching Award from the Faculty of Arts and Science at the University of Toronto.
