Biography

David Whitehouse is an acknowledged world authority in surface nanometrology, analytical metrology, and applied manufacturing. He earned a B.Sc. in Physics from Bristol University, a Ph.D. in Surface Tribology from Leicester University, and a D.Sc. in Analytical Metrology from the University of Warwick. His career began in the early 1960s, where he was instrumental in introducing analytical digital techniques in manufacturing. He has authored eight books, including definitive texts on surface metrology, and over 200 technical papers, reflecting his pioneering position in the field. Throughout his career, he has been associated with numerous prestigious institutions, including a role as Chief Scientist and Full Professor at the University of Warwick. Whitehouse initiated the Centre for Micro-Engineering Metrology in the UK between 1979 and 1990 and was the founding Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Nanotechnology. His recognition includes several awards such as the Joseph Whitworth Prize and the General Pierre Nicolau Medal Award from the International Academy of Production Engineering. He is dedicated to mentoring younger academics and promoting women in science and engineering.
