Biography

David Williams is a Professor in the Department of English Language and Literature at the University of Waterloo. He studied English-language poetry in the United States, Scotland, and England before returning to Canada. Since 2010, he has been teaching modern contemporary British and Irish literature at St. Jerome's University. Williams has published two books on contemporary poetry: 'Defending Poetry' (2010) and 'Life Words' (2020). His recent work engages with etymology and the historical significance of linguistic thought. He has contributed articles to various academic journals and is currently pursuing a SSHRC-funded project aimed at analyzing the Oxford English Dictionary. His current research includes topics in poetry, lexicography, and language studies, and he is interested in supervising graduate students in these areas.
