David P. Williamson is a Professor at Cornell University in the School of Operations Research and Information Engineering. He received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from MIT in 1993, studying under Professor Michel X. Goemans. He completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Cornell and was a Research Staff Member at IBM Research's T.J. Watson Research Center from 2000 to 2003 before becoming a Senior Manager in the Computer Science Principles Methodologies group at IBM’s Almaden Research Center in San Jose, California. He joined Cornell University in 2004 and has been actively engaged in research focused on finding efficient algorithms for hard discrete optimization problems, particularly in the areas of approximation algorithms for network design, facility location, and scheduling. His current research efforts are centered on the Traveling Salesman Problem and simple approximation algorithms. David Williamson has taught a variety of courses at both undergraduate and graduate levels and served as Chair of the Department of Information Science from July 2021 to December 2023. He is also the Editor-in-Chief of the SIAM Journal on Discrete Mathematics.
