Davide Spinello received his Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering from the University of Rome 'La Sapienza' in 2001, followed by a Master’s degree in the same field from the same university in 2005. He then earned his Ph.D. in Engineering Mechanics from Virginia Tech in 2006. From January 2007 to July 2009, he was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Autonomous Systems Control Laboratory at Virginia Tech, where he developed motion control estimation algorithms for autonomous cooperative operation of underwater vehicles. In September 2009, he joined the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Ottawa, where he teaches courses on controls, dynamical systems, and continuum mechanics. His research interests encompass Cooperative Distributed Control, Estimation, Dynamical Systems, Robotics, Continuum Mechanics, Micro- Nanoelectromechanical Systems, Multiphysics Systems, and Numerical Methods for Partial Differential Equations. He has supervised multiple graduate and undergraduate students and has been involved in collaborative projects with Defence Research Development Canada and the National Research Council Canada on topics including Reinforcement Learning for Optical Satellite-to-Ground Communications.
